The Transfer from Wapakoneta

Here we are in another week of school. This week has been kind of crazy as per usual. The week started off on Monday forgetting my bookbag at home causing me to show up late to the lift Monday morning. Later that day I decided to go back home to Wapakoneta to watch my brother play his first baseball game of the year. I got home just in time to ride over to the ballpark with my family but little did I know I forgot my lawn chair.  When I realized I had forgotten my chair it was too late to go home and grab it because I would miss the beginning of the game. Tuesday finally rolled around and let me tell you it was a long one. On Tuesday I had a job introduction day where I had to watch hours upon hours of certification videos so I could operate a forklift for this company. After I finally got out of the videos I had to take a test which was pretty easy so that made me feel like it was not a complete waste of time. Now here we are mid-week on Wednesday. On Wednesday I had to help my dad load out steers at our family’s farm. Loading out the steers is not just a little task because it entails sorting the calves by size putting the correct number in each pen so that when the semi shows up we can just walk them onto the trailer. After we got the cattle sorted the semi showed up right on time and we were able to get the cattle loaded up easily. How has your week been so far?

  1. I remember you telling me about that job! I'm glad to hear that it's been going well so far, you'll need to keep me updated! But this week you didn't have something crazy happen to you, or did you just forget to mention it? My week has been pretty simple, just getting back into classes after an almost two-week break. Did your brother end up winning the game? Did you play baseball in high school too?

The Transfer from Wapakoneta

Here we are in our last month of classes. After this month is over, we only have a few days in May to take our exams and then we are off on summer break. I will be spending my weeks leading up to these exams studying a lot so I can keep my grades up. We just started our second week of spring practices this week. Things are starting to come to me quicker as I am still learning all the tag words and signals but overall, it is going well. This week my family and I have been planning our vacation that we are taking this summer and needless to say I am ready for summer. How is everyone else’s life going?

The Transfer from Wapakoneta

Here we are another week down and things are still going well. We just got back from a nice surprise four day weekend because of snow. I spent my days from last Wednesday night to Saturday afternoon pushing and plowing snow from the cab of our skid loader. I plowed anywhere from 20-25 driveways during each day while pushing big industrial lots and gas stations in the nighttime. This left little time for sleep. Each day I was awake and pushing snow every morning by 4 a.m. and not being done until 9-10 p.m. in the evening. While I knew we were going to get some snow, but I was not totally sure how much we would be getting, I used my Facebook marketing knowledge to let the people know in my surrounding area that I would be cleaning driveways out for $25 a driveway. This led to people telling other people and the word got out and I got super busy. I was able to make quite a bit of money over this three day time period and help people of the community out. Did anyone else do anything o...

The Transfer from Wapakoneta

Here we are in our second to last week of classes and let me tell you the senioritis is coming back. My classes are starting to wind way down. Last week I only had class Monday and Tuesday because my classes got cancelled for the rest of the week. This made for really easy week sort of. When I say sort of, I mean I had to go home and help on the farm. We had some gorgeous days last week and the weekend. We started to get into the fields to start side dressing end rows with anhydrous. We apply the rest of the anhydrous when the crop has emerged from the ground because it is more effective. The reason we do the end rows before it is planted is because we do not want to run over as much corn. We also spread hog manure on our field that we were going to plant our hay crop on. We then planted that field after we finished spreading. We planted till about 12 a.m. until we ran out of seed. I will say that it was a relief that we ran out of seed, or we would have been planting all night long. T...
